It's 9:27 right now, and it's virtually impossible to go outside. My dad tried.
  • It's really windy
  • It's dark
  • Everywhere is flooded
The power went out just a minute ago, then came back on. I'm writing quickly in case the lights go out again.
Take a look at these pictures! This is my garage, and the street outside.

Hi everybody.
Here I am keeping you updated on Frankenstorm (a.k.a Hurricane Sandy)>
OK. If you couldn't see the changes before, you can now.
Right now its 6:51 P.M. By 8:00 P.M., the water will become high tide. That seems like a joke. I took a long walk about 45 minutes ago. I was planning to walk even more, but I couldn't. That's because I couldn't walk. The wind was too strong. It didn't help that half of the walkway was flooded. You heard that right. It was FLOODED.Here are some pictures and videos that my dad and I took.

Yes, this part of the walkway was flooded. Also, the water in the areas that aren't flooded are going to be, because the water is less than 6 inches from the walkway. I hope it doesn't flood, but I feel like it will.

People are just standing around outside taking pictures. Let's hope it won't get worse than this.

Here's a video. The reporter there is me :). The wind is about 30 m.p.h now. It's really terrible.

1:30 P.M. The storm hasn't hit us yet, but even now as I was walking around outside I was buffeted around like a rag doll. I was kind of scared that my little sister would fly away. :) It's much windier than when I last wrote, and it's really cold. I bet it was about 30 m.p.h.
This is New York and the Freedom Tower. Look at the waves! I have never seen the Hudson River so "crazy". Frankenstorm is going to be much, much worse than Hurricane Irene- you can take my word for it. Lots of places will get flooded. I just hope this isn't global warming.

I will say it again- look at those waves! DO NOT GO SAILING IN THIS WEATHER. I REPEAT. DO NOT GO SAILING IN THIS WEATHER.

Here's the giant Colgate clock that doesn't work. The waves are the same level as the land under the clock.

Work teams are putting sandbags all over the walkway, and having trouble while doing so. I'm not sure what the sandbags are going to do when the storm hits.

She's definitely having a hard time walking. What's going to happen when the hurricane unleashes full force? I wonder if she'll be able to walk outside then.

I'm very sorry for my very unprofessional video, but the wind was very strong :).  Outside might not look so bad, but you have to actually be here to experience it.
Keep watching, I'll keep you posted when the hurricane gets stronger.
Keep asking yourself, "Is this because of global warming?"

11:30 A.M. It's still very windy and extremely cloudy here in NJ. It was drizzling for a while. I'll keep you posted. Yasemin.
Hi Folks. It's 10:10 A.M.. I went outside at about 9:30 A.M. It's ridiculously windy and some places are flooded. Winds are about 20 m.p.h. I took some pictures from near the harbor. Is the flooding because of global warming? The Hudson River is seriously polluted. Take a look at the pictures below that I took. I'll keep you posted if anything new turns up.
All of the houses along the harbor will be flooded, I think. The park- to the right of the picture- is already half flooded with water.

The water has risen up to the same height as the land. It's quite scary to see.

Is this pollution or what? Have we created Frankenstorm? Are humans destroying themselves?

New York. It's gray and kind of foggy today.

I have never seen a swan around here. But here you go. Even the swan knows there's a storm coming. Let's hope it doesn't flood too much. It's already started.

Frankenstorm...is...COMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hurricane Sandy(a.k.a Frankenstorm) has already started here in NJ. New Jersey has declared a state of emergency. WHAT'S GOING ON?!?! I feel like people are reacting too much. There are no more generators in Home Depot, and supermarkets are running out of stuff. People are staying inside, and I'm no exception. I've been in my house since this morning.
Last summer a storm like this happened again, and people panicked. Turns out it was just a little rain.
Some people-such as myself- are asking whether the storm is because of global warming. Well, I think we should wait and see. Storms are quite typical, though not in this area(hmmm), but Hurricane Sandy seems to be a monster.
Here's an article from NPR that might clear things up:

Save the Ethiopian Wolf!

Sorry I haven't written for so long.
I'm still looking in the environment section of the newspapers. (u should too ;))
The world's rarest canine: the Ethiopian wolf, is almost extinct! I looked at pictures of it. IT'S REALLY CUTE. That might sound weird but they are cute! (looks kind of like my dog!) There are less than 500 of them. Here's an article:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/20041534
These wolves are more prone to getting rabies than other species. In just a few months, the population has decreased 75%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  THIS IS SOOOOOOOOOOO TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have to help the Ethiopian wolves. Yeah I know you're probably thinking,"its just a few wolves who cares." BUT IF THIS SPECIES DIES, OTHER SPECIES WILL DIE, RIGHT DOWN TO THE THINGS WE EAT!!!!!(THEN HUMANS MIGHT GO EXTINCT TOO!!!!!)
We're not helping them at the moment; one of the other things that are making them extinct is habitat loss. WE'RE CHOPPING DOWN TREES FOR NO REASON AND WE'RE TURNING THE EARTH INTO A DESERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Watch the Lorax to learn more. SAVE THE ETHIOPIAN WOLF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Speaking of The Lorax, here is a reality check; some bad facts the movie didn't include.

  • if all the trees were cut down, then the whole world would become a desert.
  • there would be no such place as Thneedville.
  • there would be so many people in the world that everything would starve.
  • there would be no water.
  • almost everything would become extinct.
P.S. If you have any ideas on how to help the Ethiopian wolf, or any other endangered animal, please write them down in the comments section.
